About Icacos Island
Puerto Rico's Clearest Waters
Icacos Island (Cayo Icacos) is a small, uninhabited coral island off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico, part of the protected Cordillera Keys Nature Reserve. It sits roughly 4 nautical miles northeast of Fajardo and is reachable only by boat. With no roads, no buildings and no crowds, Icacos is the quintessential deserted-island escape — a crescent of white sand framed by shallow, glass-clear turquoise water.
Because it lies inside a nature reserve, the waters around Icacos stay remarkably pristine. The shallow sand flats are perfect for wading and floating, while the reef edges offer some of the easiest, most rewarding snorkeling on Puerto Rico's east coast — sea turtles, tropical fish and calm conditions make it ideal for first-time snorkelers and families with kids. Visibility often exceeds 30 feet on a calm day.
There are no facilities on the island, which is exactly why a private charter is the best way to visit: you arrive with everything you need — captain, food, drinks, snorkel gear and a floating mat — and you leave nothing behind. Most groups spend 3–4 hours on the water, splitting time between snorkeling the reef, lounging on the beach and enjoying a full meal onboard.
