Why Fajardo

Puerto Rico's Snorkeling Gateway

Fajardo is the jumping-off point for the Cordillera Keys — a chain of small, mostly uninhabited islands with shallow turquoise water and healthy coral reefs. In 20 minutes you can be snorkeling off Icacos; in under an hour you can reach Culebra, home to the protected Carlos Rosario reef (famous for sea turtles) and Flamenco Beach.

Because the run to the reefs is so short, you spend most of your tour actually in the water — not traveling. And because the islands sit inside protected waters, the sea is calm even on breezy days, which makes Fajardo snorkeling ideal for beginners, families and anyone who wants an easy, beautiful day on the water.

You can choose between a private snorkeling charter (the whole boat is yours) or a shared excursion (you buy a seat on a group trip). Both reach the same reefs — the difference is exclusivity, flexibility and price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need snorkeling experience?
No. Most tours welcome complete beginners. Gear is provided and the crew gives a quick orientation. Icacos and Palomino are especially good for first-timers because the water is shallow and calm.
Will I see sea turtles?
Sea turtles are common at Culebra's Carlos Rosario reef, which is one of the most reliable places in Puerto Rico to snorkel with them. They're occasionally spotted around the Cordillera Keys too.
What's the difference between private and shared?
A private charter means the entire boat is reserved for your group — you choose the route and pace. A shared excursion is a scheduled group trip where you buy a seat and share the boat with other travelers at a lower per-person price.
Is snorkeling good for kids?
Yes. The protected waters around the Cordillera Keys are shallow, calm and clear, making them ideal for children. A private charter gives the most flexibility for families.
What's included?
Every tour includes a mask, snorkel, fins and a flotation vest, plus a floating mat. Private charters include a cooler with ice and water.
How long is a snorkeling tour?
Half-day tours run about 4 hours and full-day trips run 6–7 hours. Half-day trips usually go to Icacos or Palomino; full-day trips head to Culebra.
